For my first service requirement, I made tissue paper flowers to be shown at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. These flowers were for their annual benefit to show the Art in the museum. The flowers are all on a wall for the benefit, so it looks like there is a giant wall of flowers, I think they were also scattered other places in the museum as well. I completed this service requirement on October 4th from 5-7 pm. It was really fun, and we ate pizza as well as made some pretty nice flowers (look to the pictures). At first, it was really hard to make the flowers because there was so much twirling of the paper and also making the flower tape perfect on the stick. In the end though, I was able to find a happy medium so that I could tape the paper to the stick and then twirl a pipe-cleaner around it and the flower didn’t fall apart (I was really proud of the flower to the bottom-left)! I learned how to make simple tissue flowers in a variety of different ways and I learned to find the method that worked best for me. I ended up not being as terrible as I thought I would be at this process, and, of course, Leah Clancy- the head of the activities- was really funny and taught us really well. I am thinking about working more with the Pasadena Museum of California Art for my sophomore year if I can, and maybe even in my free time!
